Hi--

I have a question for anyone who knows more about Northern CA hawks than I do (which would be anybody, laugh: I'm a New Yorker): I just saw an extremely large hawk out a window, and would like to identify it. It was too far away for me to make out details, but it was brown, had a fairly short tail (from profile, as it perched on a post, it almost looked like a chicken it was so big?) and had a bright yellow or orange beak. I'm in the bay area, and I've bird-watched before; this was truly quite a large bird. I didn't really see the underside, but caught no flashes of white as it was flying. I'm guessing that it was about 18" to 20" tall. Thanks!
